After nearly 30 years at Vogue, Grace Coddington the longtime and cherished magazine family member known for her star turn in The September Issue is stepping down from her position as creative director of the fashion bible.
The yin to the editor Anna Wintour’s yang, is dialing down her role at the magazine. She will, however become “creative editor at large,” doing “several” stories a year for the glossy and exploring outside opportunities.
I can’t quite imagine Vogue magazine without her! She was the heart of it! Ms. Coddington was a great celebrator of the fantasy of fashion: its power to transport and transform. She was less interested in the commercial side and had almost no interest in the digital side of things. She favored models over celebrities.
There are reportedly no plans to fill the specific role of American Vogue creative director.
What will the future of US Vogue be without the creative and often dreamlike influence of Coddington? Lets just say it’s going to be an interesting fashion season.
