Those in the know or should I say, those bold enough to leave the house in silky separates — have been doing sleepwear as daywear for quiet some time now. Pajama dressing has been a major style for pretty much every street style star of 2016. So for Summer 2016, it is no surprise that one of the biggest fashion trends was to take underwear as outerwear up a notch by focusing on the slip dress.
This has to be the season of contrasts. Less will most definitely be more, with long Nineties dresses à la Kate Moss, lingerie details, pyjama cuts and delicate sheer fabrics. The boudoir staple, the slip dress can be layered over a long-sleeved shirt or a simple tee to counter the sexiness of the slip and cut the sweetness.
Reminiscent of the ’90s, the slipdress trend is once again picking up speed since being sent down the runway last season. This piece has been gladly welcomed back. The slip dress evokes a sexy, insouciant elegance that’s just as comfortable being paired with Chuck Taylor high-tops as it is a pair of come-hither strappy sandals.
So why not invest in a classic black style, one with a pop of color, or a pretty gold metallic version. Of course, the clingy fabric will not suit everyone’s tastes. But with camisoles, kimonos and other lingerie-style items coming to the forefront – there really is no reason why we can’t all embrace this trend and dare to bare.
