Home Away From Home

Good Morning Everyone,

Today my post is a little bit bit different as I am collaboration with non other than Chill Insurance who have recently launched their latest campaign which is all about exploring Ireland and seeing what it has to offer.

For me, there is no better feeling than that sense of adventure you get when you pack up your car, choose a road trip playlist and set off on an adventure to explore the country. One of the many perks of our emerald isle is that you don’t need to travel far for spectacular views and new experiences, its so easy to cover a lot of different areas in a short-ish amount of time.

My all time favourite road trip route is and always will be a trip to the Kingdom otherwise know as County Kerry to one of the best places in the world…..Killarney! It has a combination of lakes, mountains and scenery that make it an exciting journey with new sights around every corner.

Killarney is a town that has always been buzzing, every since I was a little girl I have been in love with not only Killarney but Kerry full stop. Its a place where rural Ireland is still very much alive but still manages to move with the times if that makes sense. For many people, the Gap of Dunloe trip is the ultimate way to experience the best that Killarney has to offer whether it be by walking, driving, cycling or even taking a jaunting cart. It is almost like a road trip in itself as you can travel through the ice age carved valley of the Gap of Dunloe and return through Killarney National Park via the three Lakes of Killarney, its a journey you will never forget and one that I have taken more times that I can actually remember. The spectacular scenery continually changes (depending on what the weather is like) and you will find it hard to pick your favourite part of this memorable trip. However, I do have one particular stop where I like to park up the car even if it is for 5 mins and just take it all in, away from the hustle and bustle of reality and enjoy what it has to offer especially if the sun is out.

Another one of my favourite spots to visit is of course Torc Waterfall. If you want a great viewing point of the lakes this is a must but I will say it is not for everyone as it is a pretty steep ascent and is a but of a work out but  if you can push yourself a little and climb steps to the waterfall, the view from the top will make you resolve to take up hill walking as you sit there and survey the panorama of crests which runs all the way from the Magillicuddy Reeks, past the less travelled summits of south Kerry, and on to Mangerton and the Paps.

Last but certainly not least, a visit to The Europe Hotel and Resort is a must even if it is only for some afternoon tea. This 5 star hotel features views of Killarney’s lakes and mountains that can arrange pony treks through the nearby Killarney National Park, fishing and boating is available on the lake from the hotel’s private pier, a luxury spa offering a range of treatments and a panorama restaurant serving a range of fine cuisines. As you can imagine, things are unsurprisingly busy and everyone from tourists, locals and a few others travelling around the country for a sneak peek at the fabled five star hotel in the capital of Ireland’s luxury accommodation epicentre.

As we all know it’s not often we get a chance to do this, but with summer here, its time to get excited about having the freedom to just hop in car and get on the road. So where will you be taking your next road trip?
